Scan & Go — Self-Checkout

Context

Mobile self-checkout in the EDEKA app: customers scan goods with their own phone and pay without a checkout line. The conditions are unforgiving — supermarket lighting, crumpled barcodes, and at the exit check the receipt has to be beyond doubt.

Task

Building the complete flow: barcode scanning with the Scandit SDK, basket, payment and exit code. UI as a mix of SwiftUI and UIKit — SwiftUI where it was already viable in 2019 — on a reactive RxSwift architecture.

Result

Scan & Go went live as part of the EDEKA app: one continuous flow from the first scan to the exit release, with no checkout queue.
